"Where is the Master buried": the grave in L'Islet / the Concavity, the Masters willed into the ground, and Gately's grave-dig dream

• When: the burial (YTSDB, "twice delayed by annular hyperfloration") and the Nov-YDAU hunt for the buried Master
• What: Joelle gives the buried-Master question its two hinges. On disposition of the unreleased films: "They were buried with him. The Masters of everything unreleased. At least that was in his will" (scene 178). And the location, now doubly lost: "If it got made and nobody's seen it, the Master, it's in there with him. Buried... Where he's buried is itself buried, now. It's in your annulation-zone. It's not even your territory" — i.e. JOI's grave lies in the toxified Concavity ceded to Canada, so "if you want the thing -- he'd enjoy the joke very much" (178). She flatly severs the Master from the death: "It had nothing to do with killing himself. Less than nothing to do with it." Hal corroborates the plot: "The Moms had had Himself interred in her family's traditional plot in L'Islet Province," and reflects that "the mound of earth on a freshly-filled grave seems airy and risen and plump, like dough" (172; C.T.'s graveside "misadventure" noted, unexplained). The image erupts in Gately's fever-dream: "he's with a very sad kid and they're in a graveyard digging some dead guy's head up and it's really important, like Continental-Emergency important... the important thing was buried in the guy's head," the sad kid making "the face of somebody shouting in panic: Too Late" (scene 175, Gately-POV, hallucination-ambiguous). The endnote apparatus (n160) supplies the legal-physical specifics: "perhaps half a dozen other emotionally or professionally sensitive cartridge-Masters" (including the disturbing Clipperton footage) were "designated Unviewable by testatory codicil"; "As far as can be determined, only those lawyers, Avril, Disney Leith, and perhaps Mario know that the cartridges were, in fact, along with his case of special lenses, interred right there with J. O. Incandenza's dead body" — there being room "in the bronze casket" (vs. n80's "brass casket," cite both as written) "only because Incandenza's extreme height dictated a casket-size that his thin physique didn't nearly fill"; the sub-note pins the grave to "the Mondragon-family-plot area of Le Cimetière du St. Adalbert" off Provincial Autoroute 204 in L'Islet, "just over the border from what is now the eastern Concavity, such that the funeral had to be delayed and then rushed to be fit in between annulation-cycles" (n160 p. 1030).
