• What: The clearest picture of what DuPlessis's coordination was worth is what happens where it stops. The Antitoi brothers — "eccentric and borderline-incompetent," gently protected by their "late regional patron" — are "spurned by F.L.Q. after DuPlessis's assassination and also ridiculed by the more malignant anti-O.N.A.N. cells", and Bertraund, left to his own conceptual devices for the first time, shows "a previously DuPlessis-restrained flair for stupid wastes of time" — Gentle doormats, brick mailings, a sideline in harmful pharmaceuticals. Unrestrained and unprotected, the brothers blunder into possession of cartridges that draw the A.F.R. to their shop, and die there (the raid and its DuPlessis-samizdat payoff: events 11-12). The leash-holder's death, in miniature: the leash goes slack, and the dog wanders into traffic.
