The Ennet House streetlet shooting — Gately shot defending residents from the Nucks

• What: During the post-curfew car-move, three large Canadians ("Nucks") in floral shirts arrive in a modified Montego hunting Randy Lenz — revenge for Lenz having slit their dog's throat earlier that night (Lenz baited it with a chunk of Gately's leftover meatloaf; scene 116, the causal trigger). One Nuck holds a modified.44 Bulldog on the residents. Gately, responsible for residents on the grounds, interposes himself; Lenz uses him as a shield. Gately says twice he does not want to fight, then when a blade appears fights all three — dislocating one Nuck's arm, Rockette-kicking the knife-man, beating a third's head on the windshield — and is shot in the right shoulder (a Grade-II synovial trauma) by the plaid-hatted Nuck. Bruce Green saves his life by forcing the gun-arm skyward (Nell Gunther kicks the shooter; Green breaks his own nose in the half-nelson). Bleeding into shock, Gately REFUSES to let anyone call an ambulance or the Finest — he is Supervised and fears jail. Joelle van Dyne climbs down, applies pressure with her folded robe, and directs the residents to get him inside before police arrive. Mid-fight Gately suffers a black surge of "Remember-Whenning" about the Québecer (DuPlessis) he had earlier killed by gagging a man with a head cold.
