What: Physical anchor: Gately is 188 cm and 128 kg. He's an unlikely House chef ("never once eaten broccoli or a pear until last year"), serving boiled hot dogs, cornflake-topped meatloaf, etc. Application backstory: he first came to Ennet House "only to keep out of jail," was up-front with Pat Montesian about it, and his grim honesty/hopelessness (plus a lukewarm Peabody P.O. referral) was why Pat admitted "such a clearly bad-news specimen." Counselor Eugenio "Gene M." Martinez gave him the Betty-Crocker-Cake-Mix analogy for working AA without understanding it. Pat "was never in any way a mother-figure for Gately."
