• What: Fackelmann and Kite ran an "unambitious but elegant" scam: rig up an identity and credit record, rent a furnished luxury apartment, rent upscale appliances, fence the furnishings, then camp out on air mattresses getting high on the proceeds until the second Overdue Notice, then move on. Gately corroborates it in memory as stripping North Shore apartments "with G. Fackelmann and T. Kite" until "they were sleeping in a totally bare apartment." Fackelmann — who "for a narcotics addict had had a truly raging libido" — liked to bring girls back and, feigning astonishment at the empty rooms, shout "We been fuckin robbed!"
