What: Candid with residents about the cultish, "brainwashy" charge against AA, Gately shrugs that by the end of his oral-narcotics-and-burglary career "the old brain needed a good scrub and soak anyway." He says "he pretty much held his brain out and told Pat Montesian and Gene M. to go ahead and wash away" — pairing Eugenio with House director Pat as the two figures to whom Gately consciously surrendered his own thinking. (He now suspects the Program is more deprogramming than washing.)
