He "called the Disease The Spider and talked about Feeding The Spider versus Starving The Spider" (scene 066); he "never tires of pointing out" that "your personal will is the web your Disease sits and spins in" — the will you call your own long since shot through with your Disease, so recovery means surrendering it (scene 074). He also likes to spell it out: "you can spell the Disease DIS-EASE" (scene 066), which the narration says "sums the basic situation up nicely."
