Tiny Ewell, the survey's obsessive, "has soberly elected to let this go unsubstantiated" — even in the story the emblem stays a rumor. On the staff side, he is one of the two named sources behind the House's oral history of Pat Montesian: what Gately knows of Pat's story is "mostly like Ennet House mythology, with some hard facts from Gene M. and Calvin Thrust, both of whom think Pat M. just about hung the moon" — placing Thrust, with Eugenio Martinez, in the inner Pat orbit.
