• What: In the legal aftermath, most residents give depositions broadly supporting Gately's self-/Lenz-defense. Per Calvin Thrust's hospital report to Gately, "the last resident to depose to seeing" the missing .44 was Green, who says he took the Item away from the Nuck who had been stomped to death and then dropped it on the lawn — after which it vanished from legal view, becoming the single biggest problem for Gately's self-defense case. This is Green's last attestation in the novel; his ongoing fate is left open, as printed.
