• What: Scene 124 names him five times. While Kate Gompert and Geoffrey Day converse across the dim room, Green sleeps sitting up (feet on the floor, just inside the no-lying-on-the-couch rule), his nose from the melee "broken and cross-hatched in white tape"; he doesn't snore, and isn't listening. Twice his sleep says aloud what he tells Lenz he never dreams (event 12; cite both as written): he "cries out something that sounds like 'For God's sake no Mr. Ho don't light it!'" — the Hawaiian-music name (Don Ho, event 8's soundtrack) fused with a plea against a lighting, a reading flagged as such — and later, straight into Day and Gompert's talk of the thing too big to see, comes his one distinct utterance. His "swollen black eyes and R.E.M.'s non sequiturs" sit unremarked amid the insomniac ensemble.
