Fackelmann's scam, the wraith returns (p. 933)

quote

He dreams he’s riding due north on a bus the same color as its own exhaust, passing again and again the same gutted cottages and expanse of heaving sea, weeping. The dream goes on and on, without any kind of resolution or arrival, and he weeps and sweats as he lies there, stuck in it.

Context

Fever-time rendered as transit that never arrives: the same cottages, the same sea, "again and again," duration with no destination. The nightmare inversion of Abiding — instead of one endurable second at a time, an interminable loop he is simply "stuck in." (The dream itself is dreams-tag property; the temporal texture is what's filed here.)
