Context
The resident has just pointed out that the feeling has always passed before, and this is her answer: from inside It there is no before or after, only an eternal present that retro-colonizes the past and forecloses the future. The sentence then breaks off on "a couple weeks after—" — the first surfacing of withdrawal's two-week clock, which she won't finish naming for another three pages.
