Context
The cardiovascular finale hands a body over completely: in Side-to-Sides "the duration of the drill and pace and angle of the fungoes... are entirely at the prorector’s discretion." The player has no say in when it ends — he runs until the man feeding the balls decides to stop, chasing whatever angle at whatever pace the feeder chooses. The drill's whole demonic potential is this transfer of authority over one's own exertion and pain to someone standing at the net with an armful of balls. The body is not its own; its limit is set by another's discretion.
