Hal v. Stice: the filling stands and the R.A.S.U. behind the court
The basic ten-level R.A.S.U. from the Universal Bleacher Co. sat right behind the court. [...] the stands gradually filled as word got down to the locker rooms that The Darkness was playing 18’s A-2 dead-even in the first set of something Schtitt had actually dispatched a scooter to order.
Context
The spectator apparatus of the match the book otherwise leaves unplayed: a "basic ten-level R.A.S.U. from the Universal Bleacher Co." sits right behind the court, and as word spreads that The Darkness is holding "18's A-2 dead-even," the stands fill with hunched, layered E.T.A.s watching Stice take a genuine set off Hal. This is the crowd the wraith-Stice scaffold gathers — deLint charting the rare inspired point, the punter's profiler and Helen Steeply perched in the top row — the institution assembling itself into bleachers to watch two bodies decide something the never-shown Hal–Stice final will otherwise leave open.
