Troeltsch's synonym-hunt produces the scene's grim comedy: the scores narrated as a bestiary of slaughter — Chu "disembowelled" his man, Beak "spread Ville Dillard on a cracker... and bit down," Possalthwaite "moonballed him into a narcoleptic coma." The lurid verbs are the institution's real feeling about competition leaking through the bureaucratic recital: what the ranking machine actually processes is bodies destroying other bodies, and no amount of scorekeeping euphemism fully domesticates it. The broadcast has to reach for cannibalism and coma because "defeated... 6–2, 6–1" doesn't cover what happened out there.
