The same fugitive, the same craft, seen from the meeting side: Lenz attends in "his cognito white mustache and sideburns" — the going-out apparatus (white toupee/mustache set that recurs at 105/109/120) worn even into an AA hall, where he predictably peels off to a corner pay phone "in the northeast corner." The disguise and the north-compulsion travel together; the concealment is a fixed routine, and a fixed routine is exactly what a watcher logs.
