The Reconfiguration is not an abstraction to the Marathes — they live in "Convexity-ravaged wastes," the toxic ceded land the whole anthology traces, and the children are already "entertainment-hungry," pulled toward the American appetite Marathe fights. The political catastrophe of 086 and 097 is here a hometown; the war's largest terms and its most intimate ones share an address.
