The theme's convergence named from inside by Hal: "everybody's suddenly mentioning Québec in all kinds of radically different contexts" — Orin's "protracted obsession about anti-O.N.A.N. Québecers," Tavis announcing "Québec are the lambs in this year's fundraiser," "Your Mum's from Québec," Poutrincourt's insurgency class "basically a Québecathon." The novel's Québec-plot surfacing to a character's own notice, all threads (Orin, the fundraiser, Avril, the class) declared as one convergence. And the ambient political datum dropped into the calculus lesson: "inflation of O.N.A.N. currency over U.S. currency" — the two-currency economy (154/160) tilting, the O.N.A.N. dollar inflating against the U.S. one. (The DMZ/addiction-and-quitting substance is addiction-recovery's / the DMZ-ledger's; landed here is the Québec-convergence and the currency-inflation.)
