The footnote glossing Marathe's dying wife (ventricular restenosis) is where experialism's abstraction becomes a body count: the disease is "rare before continental Interdependence" and now a leading killer in Québec and New Brunswick, "associated with chronic low-level exposure" to dioxin compounds. The Convexity's toxic gift is metabolized as cardiac death disproportionately across the border — Reconfiguration billed to Québecois hearts, with the affected U.S. Northeast a distant seventh. This is the private stake under Marathe's whole betrayal: his wife is dying of the map.
