The Universe Lashes Out records the human cost the founding montages elide: the "evacuation of Atkinson NH/New Québec at the inception of Continental Reconfiguration" — a New Hampshire town renamed "New Québec" and emptied so its ground could be ceded and dumped on. The title's mock-cosmic grandeur ironizes what is in fact an administrative de-peopling; the map is redrawn and a town's residents are the footnote.
