Context
The founding rhetoric in one JFK-parody line: Gentle's second Inaugural announces "the past has been torched by a new and millennial generation," and the swagger — "to pretty much any nation we might feel like calling" — is the whole experialist posture, a nation declaring rupture with its own history and casual dominion over its neighbors in a single breath. The torched past is the precondition for Reconfiguration: you cannot gift away territory until you have burned the map of who you were.
