I was trying to align myself along some sort of grain in the world I could barely feel, since Pemulis and I stopped. Meaning the grain, not the world. I realized I could not distinguish my own visual memories of the Weston house from my memories of hearing Mario’s detailed reports of his memories.

Morning of the blizzard, 20 November: Hal in withdrawal, flat on his back on the Lindisfarne carpet, trying to reconstruct the family's old house — and the theme's center of gravity arrives in one sentence.
