The fact that Gately was devoted to Percocets and Bam-Bams and Fackelmann to Dilaudid allowed them a high level of trust with each other’s stashes.
Context
Carlisle's reading, recorded not adopted: Bam-Bams are Demerol (p. 891), which by Gately's own account he didn't meet until after Fackelmann was dead — so their presence in the Sorkin-era stash inventory is, on Carlisle's account, "Gately's telescoping memory… blurring the boundaries of these eras." Whichever chronology you hold, the retrospect's internal contradictions read as symptoms of the remembering head, not the ledger.
