Orin's compulsive self-policing, caught live: a malaprop ("exaculates," as written), then a defiant sentence-final preposition, then the flinch — "Jesus I'm thinking usage again." Grammar as maternal infection: merely talking about Avril reactivates the internal Militant Grammarian, and it "takes me days to clean myself out of it." The theme's clearest statement that prescriptivism, in this family, is transmitted like a pathogen.
