Context
Gately does his own epistemology on the haunting: if the wraith was fever, then maybe Joelle's visit was fever too — the doubt cuts both ways, and the text never resolves it. Note "figuranted": the wraith's coinage from the first visit, now conjugated inside Gately's head — the possession working at the level of grammar.
