Context
Hal's agnosticism assembled from the two most reliable instruments he knows: Mario, who doesn't lie and has seen figures, and particle physics, which behaves "ghostishly" as a matter of course. "I withhold all prejudgment" is the exact stance his Hamlet meditation interrogates thirty pages later (p. 900, in the spine).
