Stice stuck to the window (pp. 867–868)
A figure was out there, not under the shelter of the pavilion but sitting in the bleachers behind the east Show Courts, leaning back with his elbows on one level and bottom on the next and feet stretched out below, not moving, wearing what seemed to be puffy and bright enough to be a coat, but getting buried by snow, just sitting there. It was impossible to tell the person’s age or sex. […] The whole scene had an indescribable pathos to it.
Context
Pre-dawn of the freak November blizzard: Hal, standing over the stuck Stice, surveys the grounds through the window's upper half and finds an unmoving watcher letting itself be buried in the Show-Court bleachers. Nobody in the scene ever explains or even mentions the figure again — it sits on the haunted night's perimeter exactly where the wraith's months-of-stillness physics says a wraith would have to sit. (Carlisle leaves "Who is the figure in the bleachers?" open, no overreach.)
