Carlisle identifies the never-seen-again boy as Stokely "Dark Star" McNair of the n.24 filmography, dead in a Fenway hospice earlier this year (p. 300) — so the snowed-in morning's viewing is a dead boy preserved and rebroadcast on cartridge, one of the chapter's two parallel media of haunting (cartridge and memory), feeding straight into Hal's "recorded… call-uppable" vertigo in scene 183. Recorded, not adopted.
