Kate and Ruth trek up Prospect
it’s now after 2215h., meaning Kate Gompert has 75 minutes to get herself and this hideous, despair-producing, slutty and yammering newcomer beside her back for Curfew.
Context
Carlisle reads the whole trek against Hamlet I.iv: Ruth van Cleve's "excruciating" nonstop chatter as poison poured into Kate's ear, and the Curfew clock as the ghost's must-return-by-dawn constraint. His stretch, not DFW's diction — the raw has only the curfew arithmetic — but poured-in-the-ear poison is the book's Hamlet substrate and he finds it on Prospect St. Recorded, not adopted.
