Context
A film that is nothing but photographed light — no cast, no story, 4,444 frames of source and wavelength and candle power off one tin plate. The release condition is an optical instruction: run it at quarter speed or it exceeds the retina ("hyperretinal" — the eye's limit built into the film's physics). Its later sibling Kinds of Pain (pp. 987-988) repeats the exact format — 2,222 still-frame close-ups, same sprocket-drive note — with suffering swapped in for light: the optics-to-affect bridge of the whole career, in two catalogue entries.
