[…] One of the heads she does not see, floating in the windows with her own unrecognizable head and Ruth van Cleve’s cloud of hair, is the gaunt and spectral hollow-eyed head of Poor Tony Krause, who’s several steps behind them and matching their slightly serpentine course step for step, eyeing string purses he imagines contain more than just train-fare and NA Newcomers’ keychains.
Context
The catalogued Light & halation sighting (both catalogues), per the plan's row gloss "streetlights diagnosing the stalker": the failing sodium lights make "cones of epileptic light," and the man walking those cones a few steps back is Poor Tony Krause — whose Withdrawal seizure on a Gray Line train (scene 069, pp. 299-307) is the anthology's one worked-out seizure, so the adjective lands on him like a diagnosis before Kate ever sees him. And she doesn't see him, because he's one more disconnected head "floating in the windows" — the darkened-shop-window reflections that run the whole scene (first pp. 698-699, "just heads that seem to float across each window unconnected to anything"), a running reflection-surface apparatus the catalogues don't carry, noted below.
