The Antitoi shop and the A.F.R. (pp. 484–485)
He bobs and sweeps, and bobbing shafts of mirror-light gleam and dance, backed by night, in the locked door’s pane.
Context
The row's quoted phrase, in its domestic register: Lucien sweeping the spotless shop at night, and the mirror-rig answers his bobbing with bobbing light — the room's optics playing back his own motion in the door's pane, "backed by night." The last benign image the shop's glass produces; the same pane simultaneously holds the reflection of the wheelchair figure waiting across the street, and the raw runs the two functions of glass (mirror toward the lit inside, window toward the dark outside) together in one surface.
