Mario's ONANtiad: the Concavity Cabinet and Clipperton
The first map is your more or less traditional standard issue, with the U.S. looking really big in white and Mexico’s northern fringes a tasteful ladies’-room pink and Canada’s brooding bottom hem a garish, almost menacing red. The second North American map looks neither old nor all that good, traditionally speaking. It has a concavity. Context
The catalogued Lenses/cameras sighting, a (C, reading) item: Carlisle reads the two-easel map presentation in Mario's puppet-film as narrated from Luria's (northern) optical perspective — the visual rhetoric of the maps (Canada "brooding," its red "garish, almost menacing," then "pushy") as a viewpoint smuggled into the Cabinet's own visual aid, with Tine's slip two lines earlier as the tell: "Allow me to illustrate what Lur—just what the president means." On this reading the illustration's real author is the Québecoise fatale, and the map is an optical instrument aimed southward. Carlisle's reading, recorded not adopted; what the raw itself supports is the slip plus the loaded color-language of the map description. Reconfiguration rendered as a pair of "visuals" inside a film.
