Orin's interview with Steeply — "and in his spare time made…"
and in his spare time made in-depth documentaries and a dozen art-films that people are still writing doctoral theses on. So was he insane? It’s true, the New Yorker guy, the film guy who replaced the guy who replaced Rafferty, what was his name, it’s true he kept saying the films were like the planet’s most psychotic psyche working out its shit right there on the screen and asking you to pay to watch him.
Context
Orin's functioning-as-sanity defense of The Stork, with the filmography as Exhibit A: a dead man's mental state argued from his output, "in-depth documentaries and a dozen art-films" produced in the spare time of a blind-drunk final five years. And the prosecution is film criticism — the New Yorker critic's line reads the whole oeuvre as "the planet's most psychotic psyche working out its shit right there on the screen and asking you to pay to watch him," psychiatric testimony delivered as a review. The films are the only ground both sides argue from.
