Context
Three optics objects in the Weston slideshow. The plan's Metropolis still: what hangs framed in the auteur's first house is not a film but a director directing — Lang mid-command over the set, the image of cinematic authority itself, and Hal files it as "chilling" (n.381, the filmography-chronology gloss, is quoted below; the "1924" date is a Flags item). The steamed mirror with the knife in it is the catalogued Mirrors sighting of scene 003 resurfacing as adult memory, tagged "surreal" and left unexplained here as there. And the dead television's "gray-green eye" that frightens the child only when it's off — the blank screen as watching thing, the same corpse-eye register as 172's warming viewer ("milky blue aspect like the eye of a dead bird").
