‘Did he have film-related things with him when he flew somewhere? A film case? Equipment?’
Context
Orin probing after the three-day trip, and his question is the one the A.F.R. and U.S.O.U.S. will spend the rest of the novel asking: where did the auteur go in his last weeks, and did the film go with him? Hal can't answer — he didn't see him leave or come back. The Master's whereabouts become a live plot question here, in a brothers' phone call.
