the phone call about Himself’s death — "With fucking C.T. already moving his…"

quote

With fucking C.T. already moving his collection of platform shoes and unconvincing hairpieces and StairMaster in upstairs at HmH already.

Context

The same succession, now rendered as furniture. Orin can't hear the grief-therapy story without picturing what was happening upstairs while Hal was being processed through it: the uncle hauling his platform shoes and hairpieces and StairMaster into the Headmaster's House. It's the usurpation stripped of any dignity — not a coronation but a man moving his exercise machine into the dead king's home before the body's cold. The grotesque specificity (the vanity props, the fitness gear) is the point: Claudius as a small ridiculous administrator installing himself by increments, and the son forced to grieve on a professional schedule directly beneath the sound of it.
