Orin alleged in Y.T.M.P. that when he took the Moms’s car in the morning he sometimes observed the smeared prints of nude human feet on the inside of the wind-shield.
Context
A single sentence drifts through the litany and leaves the mother's sexuality sitting there as a physical trace: bare footprints smeared on the inside of the windshield of Avril's car, reported by Orin, who in this same stretch is said to be "going through a period where he was attracted only to young mothers of small children." The Gertrude datum and the son's mother-shaped compulsion arrive one after the other in the same flat inventory-voice Hal uses for the atomic weight of carbon and the etymology of blizzard — the family's sexual weather noted with the same affectless precision as everything else, and no more dwelt on.
