Context
The wound the Entertainment overcorrects, stated as a technical complaint. Even the avant-garde journals agreed that Incandenza's fatal flaw was plotlessness — "no movement that sucked you in and drew you along." Read against everything the samizdat is, this is the whole tragic engine in one line: the man who could never make an audience helpless before his work spent his life being told so, and the last thing he made was a movement so sucking-in that it draws you along until you die. "Fatal Achilles' heel" is the accidental prophecy — his failure to compel was fatal to his reputation, and the compulsion he finally achieved is fatal to its viewers. The Entertainment is the exact inverse of his defining lack, which is why it reads less as an aberration than as a man's flaw curdled into its own overcorrection.
