Joelle's teeth-dentist dream of Gately — "Her chair is dental and canted…"

Carlisle's reading of the dentist dream's staging: it inverts the Entertainment's signature shot — Joelle, who as Death-Mother leaned in above the wobbling infant-lens in Infinite Jest, is here the supine one under a leaning face and a round mirror-lens; dreamer and Death-Mother swap places. He backs it with the filmography (JOI's Fun with Teeth "also occurs in a dentist's office," n.24), so Joelle is dreaming herself back into the auteur's image-bank — and he chains the carnivore teeth to AA speaker John L.'s Disease with "a ravening maw, and canines down to here" (p. 347).
