Context
The doctrine's democratic close: severity subjectivized ("You decide. You be the judge... Pain is pain") until deformity is universal and the catalogue slides from Cushing's Disease to a bad-hair year without changing tone. This is the move that makes U.H.I.D. a real 12-step fellowship rather than a freak show — and the move Joelle will later say let her hide "by hiddenness" inside it.
