[…] Pemulis asks LaMont Chu and Ann Kittenplan if they’re just going to stand there with their thumbs in their bottoms and let Lord let Ingersoll eliminate Eschaton’s map for keeps for one slimy cheesy victory in just one day’s apocalypse.
Context
The Eschaton game coming apart, and Pemulis reaches for the exact idiom the book everywhere uses for suicide — "eliminate [the] map for keeps," the White Flag chapter's phrasing verbatim. Carlisle's reading, recorded not adopted: the death-idiom acted out by children. For this theme it's echo-texture — the game, not the illness — but the "for keeps" echo is eerie.
