he is trying to claw his way out of a labyrinth
Context
The thread's defining exhibit, and the note names it outright: Marijuana-Thinking is not amotivation but the opposite, a mind sealed inside "an intellectual room it cannot negotiate its way out of," expending everything it has clawing at reflexive abstraction while looking, from outside, torpid and gone. It is the cage of self given a specific mechanism — thought folding back on thought until the very possibility of contact with the practical world seems doubtful — the private labyrinth that no signal enters or leaves, mistaken by onlookers for a boy just sitting there.
