Except for Pat Montesian’s bay-windowed front office and the House Manager’s phone-booth-sized back office and the two live-in Staff bedrooms down in the basement, none of the doors inside Ennet House have locks, for predictable reasons.
Context
The institution's architecture stated as a single dry fact with the reasons left to the reader: a halfway house full of newly sober addicts is built without interior locks — no private room to use in, no door to bar, no concealment the House will underwrite — because privacy is exactly the condition recovery cannot afford to grant. The building itself is a recovery instrument, its lacks deliberate.
