Finished: the cage, and the Bottom as a high ledge
You are, as they say, Finished. You cannot get drunk and you cannot get sober; you cannot get high and you cannot get straight. You are behind bars; you are in a cage and can see only bars in every direction.
Context
The theme's two governing images fused: the cage and the ledge. Being Finished is defined as the collapse of every option — the Substance no longer works and quitting is impossible, "bars in every direction" — the addict's characteristic checkmate. And the scene's crucial correction to the folk-term "Bottom": it is not a low place you rest at but a high, unsupported edge you are "leaning way out forward" off of, the "jumping-off place" that will either kill you or turn you around. The Bottom is a crisis of altitude, not of depth.
