the glass of milk, re-enacted — "the book flashes in my mind…"

The program's own cautionary parable re-enacted almost liturgically, and failing at the precise moment it is most vividly present: Kate knows the Big Book's glass-of-milk story, knows it illustrates the insanity of believing one drink can be made harmless, and orders Kahlua and milk anyway — as a joke. The doctrine does not fail because she forgot it; it fails because knowing it and doing it are, in the disease, unrelated.
