the insanity is after all this time in hospitals and losing his business and his wife because of drinking he suddenly gets it into his head that one drink won’t hurt him if he puts it in a glass of milk.
Context
The program's own cautionary parable re-enacted almost liturgically, and failing at the precise moment it is most vividly present: Kate knows the Big Book's glass-of-milk story, knows it illustrates the insanity of believing one drink can be made harmless, and orders Kahlua and milk anyway — as a joke. The doctrine does not fail because she forgot it; it fails because knowing it and doing it are, in the disease, unrelated.
