Endnote 266 — Charles Tavis with the parents

Tavis spends a morning smoothing over the parents of kids injured in the Eschaton melee, and Struck and Pemulis talk Lateral Alice Moore into piping the sessions over her intercom. They come away agreeing that Tavis with parents is a master charmer, "a Houdini with the manacles of fact," (p. 1046) so persuasive that parents leave weeping and pumping his hands — and slowly drive off before they realize they forgot to even visit their injured child.
