The developmental machine: repetition, plateaux, the character threshold, and the challenge ladder
texture · UNDATED (standing regime; dramatized 3 Nov YDAU)
- When: UNDATED — standing pedagogy, delivered through Big Buddy minilectures and lived in the daily grind (dramatized in the 3 Nov locker-room and Viewing-Room sessions)
- What: How the creed (event 3) is applied. Development proceeds by plateaux: radical improvement, then a stall to be crossed only by "frustrating mindless repetitive practice" (Wayne's Despairing/Obsessive/Complacent typology, all ending with "a little knock on his door and it's deLint"). Below ~13-15 it is pure repetition — "why they never give anybody the boot for insufficient progress under fourteen" — the machine-language of the muscles wired in before "the concentration and character shit starts." The whole community is a challenge ladder: "The system's got inequality as an axiom," each player ranked in relation to every other, defending or assaulting squad spots in P.M. challenge matches. The lived ethos: learn to call the racquet "The Stick," squeeze a ball at all times, run the dawn drills to vomiting, "justify your seed," be a "Student of the Game," read the monthly O.N.A.N.T.A. rankings to "care and not to care." Staff engineers hardship deliberately — ratcheting the load before competitive weeks so the kids bitch as "a community voice," a designed "common enemy."
