• What: A rare concrete look at the logistics of recovery: choosing NA over AA carries a real access cost, because NA has far fewer and worse-located meetings (you could stand on Ennet's roof and be hard-pressed to spit in any direction without hitting an AA venue; the nearest Saturday NA is a chair-throwing hike across the city), so the resident's fellowship choice is partly a transit problem. The House's protective plumbing shows in the same frame: Ruth van Cleve is on her first day off new residents' three-day House Restriction, allowed out to meetings only accompanied by a senior resident the Staff judges safe (here Kate Gompert). The scene also renders the disease as a persistent "special mythic Party-Night" jones surviving in addicts who long ago lost the capacity to do anything but Party — the appetite outliving any occasion for it.
